Basic Good Manners
Dog Training

Basic good manners covers the everyday skills I teach—like polite greetings, coming when called, relaxing on a mat, and walking comfortably on leash—so life together feels

easier and more enjoyable.

Using modern, science‑based positive reinforcement and force‑free methods that are reward‑based, we build your dog’s confidence, and strengthen communication

between you and your dog.

Training Skills

You’ll learn practical skills and simple routines that fit into your days and make everyday life even more enjoyable for you and your dog.

Together, we focus on:

  • Teaching practical manners for real‑life situations

  • Strengthening communication between you and your dog

  • Setting your dog up for success

  • Keeping training fun

Custom training plans often include the skills that meet your goals and enrichment and pattern games to support focus, confidence and relaxation.

Options include:

  • Attention and focus games

  • Sit, down, and come when called

  • Place, settle and relax on cue

  • Touch/hand target for attention and redirection

  • Polite greetings with people

  • Wait at doors, before meals, or before hopping out of the car

  • Leash walking skills for more enjoyable walks

  • Trade, walk away, and leave it for safer choices around food, toys, or interesting objects

Other
Considerations

Force-Free Commitment

I do not use or support tools or methods that cause discomfort, fear, or pain.

If you rely on equipment or practices I do not use—such as underground electric fences, prong collars, or collar or leash corrections—I’m happy to chat about science‑based alternatives that enhance trust, improve communication, and keep learning fun and effective.

When a Behavior Specialist May Be Helpful

Dogs displaying aggressive behaviors, separation anxiety, or significant reactivity often benefit from working with a qualified behavior specialist. I'm happy to provide referrals.
